Enhancing our Curriculum

Enhancing our Curriculum

Monday 14th March 2022 – Mr Malloch treated everyone to a really inspiring introduction to Science Week.

Wizz, Bang, Pop!

On Friday 27th November the school took part in a terrific Science Day arranged by Mrs Silberrad.  Using ‘Stories within Science’ as our focus, the day aimed to visit those key areas of the curriculum the children had missed during the lockdown. Activities were carefully planned to allow the children to develop important skills such as observation, noticing patterns and drawing conclusions as well as developing important scientific knowledge.

Foundation & KS1
Work focused around ‘Naughty Peter Rabbit’, ‘Stinky Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘Superworm.’ Discovery learning focused on questions such as ‘Where do seeds come from?’ ‘How do seeds travel and which will fly the furthest?’ and ‘Which creatures would be happiest living in our school outdoor environment?

LKS2
Work focused around ‘Babushka’ and the properties of light. We asked questions about the properties of materials suitable for Babushka’s new curtains and what conditions were needed for the plants in her gardens.

UKS2
Work focused on the properties of Solids, liquids and gases and reversible and irreversible changes. Using a range of ingredients including: bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, chocolate, coca cola, and ice, we had great fun predicting and observing what happened in a range of reactions. We even discovered the best way to produce clean water!

Art Day 2020

On Tuesday 20th October, the whole school took part in a creative Art Day arranged by Mrs Upton. Using the theme ‘Signs of Autumn‘ the whole school set out to develop their skills in three areas: Colour and Printing, Texture (collage) and Drawing. Activities had been carefully planned to ensure progression across the school while allowing the children to express themselves independently.
