Ethos, Vision and values
Cold Harbour School has been educating children for over 40 years. In that time it has grown to reflect not only the best of current educational thinking but also to equip children for the unknown and exciting future which awaits them. We are extremely proud of our Church school’s status and strive to ensure that one of our key aims is to immerse children in a Christian ethos of care, respect, tolerance and faith.
Although our school has over 300 children on its roll, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels a strong sense of belonging not only to their class, but also to the school as a whole. Consequently, all children from the youngest to the oldest belong to a bird family and tree house. Whilst our Cygnets and Ducklings in the Baby Bird Phase will grow into Woodland, Tropical and eventually Water Birds; all children remain within their Season house of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter from start to finish.
A strong sense of belonging and pride is especially important for our children as the vertically grouped class structure can enable children the opportunity to develop a relationship with a class teacher for up to two years. Our school years are grouped into Foundation, Years 1 and 2, Years 3 and 4 and finally Years 5 and 6. Children are placed in classes according to a wide ranging set of criteria, the outcome of which is that each class is thoroughly mixed in terms of gender, age, ability and ethnicity. The active encouragement of our children to understand and value the diversity of our school community is another key aim for us.
We firmly believe that our key priority in school is to ensure that all children receive outstanding learning experiences so that they may enjoy learning and achieve to the very best of their ability. In order to achieve this we are continually reviewing our learning and teaching practices. New curriculum initiatives and National Strategies are continually assessed and implemented to support our development; however designing and delivering learning that is linked, creative, challenging and exciting underpins our work here. Clearly there is an awful lot that we can say about us and our school, however the best way to fully understand about us is to find out for yourself.
A warm welcome is extended to any visitors who wish to visit our school. Please contact us via telephone or email if you wish to make an enquiry about school places and visiting us.
