The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011. The Pupil Premium is additional funding given to schools so that they can support their disadvantaged pupils to meet their potential academically and socially and close the attainment gap between them and their peers.

Schools receive extra funding through the premium for every child registered as eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) at any point in the past six years, as well as for any children in care who have been looked after for six months.
